Rating: G
Genre: Angst; Drama
Word Count: 5368
Pairings or Characters: Morgaine; Merlin!Doctor; cameo by Eighth Doctor
Spoilers: none
Warnings:none
Summary: Reflections on mortality and Immortality, when the Doctor visits a dying Morgaine (takes place 20 years after "Battlefield")
Why I'm Recommending: You may find the author's name familiar. Leave your preconceptions at the door. Whatever her problems in TV writing, her pre-2005 fanfic is awesome. She was a rather famous fanfic writer in the wilderness years (the years between the cancellation of classic Who, and the reboot), when fanfic was about all Who fans had, (audios and novels aside). Her prose has a very poetic feel I like, and her affinity for Arturian legends is a plus. This fic, which takes place 20 years after Battlefield, shows the sacrifices that the Doctor has to make to fulfill destiny, and what that looks like to an outsider who's in the way. Rudimentary knowledge of King Arthur's legends would help, but is not required.
