Title: Candle Light
Rating: G (child friendly)
Word Count: 374 words
Pairings or Characters: The Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, and many Oods (mentioned)
Spoilers: This contains Spoilers to ‘Planet of the Ood’.
Warnings: No warning, this is a child friend article.
Summary: The Doctor is amazed at Donna’s fire and passion to save the Ood from slavery and describes her as a candle.
Additional Information: I wrote this scene in the Tardis, right after the Doctor and Donna stepped into the Tardis to leave the Ood Sphere (This scene never happened in the original show).
As the Doctor closed the door of the Tardis he thought to himself about what Donna and he had just done. They had just saved the Ood from their former life in slavery and had given them a new life, a free life. But the Doctor couldn’t help but praise Donna in his head about what she had done. She had shown such bravery and determination to save the Ood from Mr. Halpen’s business.
“Oi spaceman,” Donna said. “Why are you starring at the handle? Is it broken or something?”
“Nope,” The Doctor replied as he walked up to the Tardis’ main control panel. “Not at all.”
He gleefully smiled at Donna and she gave him a confused smiled.
“Why are we smiling?”
“Donna, do you know what we, meaning you, just did?”
“I don’t know. What did I just do?” Donna asked as she looked around the Tardis to see if she had stepped on something that she shoudn't have.
“You just freed the WHOLE Ood race! You’re brilliant Donna!” The Doctor continued. “You saw the slightest bit of unhappiness and you decided that you were going to do something about it!”
Donna smiled weakly, “Oh, I didn’t all of that.”
“But you did! You, Donna Noble, the defender of Oods’ freedom across the galaxies and you were brilliant at it. You were... umm... like fuel to a small flicker of candle light. And your actions fed that flame and now that fire will free all the Oods of the galaxies.”
“I … I just couldn’t see how something that holds their brain in their hands, go on and serve people without any words of objection. And when Mr. Halpen just started killing them I couldn’t ignore it.”
“That’s why I love traveling with you.” The Doctor smiled.
“Now speaking of flames and things that are hot, can we go somewhere warm?” Donna asked as she wrapped her thick, grey coat closer around her.
“Oh come on Donna, where’s the fun in that?” The Doctor grinned childishly as he placed his hand on one of the Tardis’ levers.
“Somewhere warm, NOW!”
The Doctor laughed as he pulled the lever and whooshed off to their next adventure with the Ood song biding them farewell …
