“Doctor!”  Amy shouted.  “Come over here!”

“Coming,” he answered and ran towards her voice.

The two of them had gotten separated in the pool area.  Amy had decided they were taking the day off to explore the Tardis’ many rooms and he agreed.  The Doctor wished to show her his world class ping pong room while Amy insisted on going to the library.  Being too stubborn to give into the other’s choice, they went their separate ways.  After a few rounds of ping pong with himself, he got bored and decided to find Amy.  The more time they spent exploring the Tardis, the more it seemed that he was becoming the companion.

As he entered the library there was no ginger in sight.  He looked through the copious rows of bookshelves.

“Amy …” The Doctor peeked his head into the next row.  “Are you there?”

“Ahoy, matey!”  Amy shouted in her best pirate voice.  The Doctor quickly spun on his heels and nearly cut off his own nose in the process.  In Amy’s hand was a sword made of the purest steel.

“Whoa!”  The Doctor eyed a sword cleverly hidden in an umbrella holder and quickly pulled it out.  “Oi!  I’ve got you now ol’ Redhead.”

It was a valiant duel.  Back and forth the blades clashed against each other. Sparks flew everywhere.  Or at least that’s what they thought their epic battle looked like.  In reality, it was the sloppiest sword fight ever fought.

“Oi, is that all you’ve got TimeLord?”  Amy advanced.

“I was trained by Cleo’s top notch guards.  You haven’t got a chance, Pond!”  The Doctor replied, confidently.

In one swift motion, Amy managed to disarm the Doctor and he fell on the ground.  Sheepishly, he smiled and Amy pulled him to his feet.  The Doctor quickly plucked the sword out of Amy’s hand.

“What is it?” Amy asked.

“Oh, nothing.  It’s just … I haven’t seen this sword in a while.”  He gently slid his hand into the hilt and stretched his arm out full-length.  “I fought a mighty foe, my best friend, with this in my Third-no-Fourth? Third, definitely third life.  This was his sword.”

“Did you win?”

“Of course!  I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t won.”

“So, where is he?”

“He’s gone.”  The Doctor’s arm fell to his side and he sighed. “He died.”

“Oh,” Amy bit her lip.  “Sorry.”

“Yeah,”  The Doctor shook his head.  “I am too.  But the past is the past, and I would never ask it to be changed.  Because the things that happen to me make me, me.  And I won’t want to be anyone else.”

The Doctor smiled cheekily which in turn sparked an eruption of laughter from the two of them.  He suggested that they explore more of the Tardis.  Amy agreed and she left the library.  On the table, the Doctor rested the blade next to his own and secretly hoped that one day it would rest with it’s Master.
