Title: Hanging FreeRating: GWord Count: 589Characters: Amy Pond, Eleventh Doctor, RorySpoilers: N/AEpisode Setting: Before 'Silence in the Library'Summary: Amy hangs over a large vista, held down by the Doctor, and watched by Rory. Maybe there's a metaphor in there.
.
The wind passes through Amy’s red hair, making it blow in her face, whipping her face. There’s a whole beautiful alien planet there, filled with color, separate by a 100 foot drop right underneath her, and the only reason she doesn’t drop down is the harness around her. On one hand, it’s supposed to be made out of the strongest material on Earth.
On the other hand, the harness is being held by the Doctor. His crazed expression would make her nervous on any time, but when he’s holding her right over a drop to her death…
She trusts him, of course. (But she also trusts gravity.)
“You’re certain this is safe?” calls out a voice. It’s Rory, of course. Her husband’s always worried about what the Doctor comes up with. Frankly, Amy isn’t sure what the Doctor said to convince Rory to let my do this.
“I’m fine, Rory,” she says, but she’s lying. She can’t tell if he hears her, anyway. A dark part of her wonders if it’s a metaphor for their relationship. She expects them to ignore her, and they do. Mostly. Then one, colored blue, veers upward, flying straight for her.
Her eyes veer downwards. She’s suspended over a beautiful green pastures. Birds flap through the air underneath her, ignoring the red-haired being above them. She decides to call out to them, squacking like she supposes birds do
“Doctor, help!” says Amy, as the bird barrels into her direction, She starts scrambling, which makes the bird freak out, and it flies away from the strange reddish thing in the sky.
“Amy?” asks the Doctor from above. She looks up, and sees his worried expression. His hands are holding Amy up, and she’s surprised by how easy it seems for him. Either she’s not that heavy, or he’s stronger than she thought.
“I’m fine. A wee birdie got curious. I scared it away. Tell Rory I’m okay.”
“I think you should get up here now,” said Rory.
“Nahhh. It’s awesome,” says Amy.
Rory and the Doctor start talking. Typical. They always argue over her.
Suddenly, Rory’s down with her, wearing a harness. Amy looks up, and sees that the Doctor’s holding both harnesses.
“Amy, tell your husband that it’s not my fault if you like to do dangerous things!” whines the Doctor.
“Why are you down here?” asks Amy.
“Well, I figured if you’re determined to hang off a balcony just to see the sights, I might as well join you,” said Rory.
“You hate extreme heights,” Amy pointed out.
“Yes, but I love you. That won out my common sense,” said Rory. “So. What’s so fun about hanging--”
Amy kisses him deeply. Then she hears the Doctor make a disgusted noise, and she realizes he’s probably more strained than he seems. She quickly lets Rory go, and looks up at the Doctor. Actually, he’s already tied the harness straps to a pole, and is now staring at a bird. Probably the same bird that nearly hit her before.
“Are you okay, Doctor? Remember, don’t feed the animals,” called out Amy.
“I’m fine, Amy. Just hang out with your husband,” said the Doctor. “This bird’s just very interested in me. I think it wants my bowtie.”
And so she wraps her arms around her husband, and just relaxes, ignoring the Doctor’s sounds of alarm from whatever the bird is doing (okay, she takes a quick peek occasionally just to check. Somehow, the bird ends up with the Doctor’s shirt in its beak). The wind passes through her red hair, as an alien planet moves beneath her.
