Title: What He Can Say
Rating: G
Genre: Gen
Word Count: 190
Pairings or Characters: The Doctor, The TARDIS
Summary: He knows the saying: you can choose your friends, but not your family.
-o-
He's had a wife. Well, partner, if specifics come into it, as marriage was seen as a different sort of connection on Gallifrey.
He's been a father, and a grandfather. He was average at the former, brilliant at the latter. Relatives were joined to him through genetics and names, of course, bonded together through blood and growth in the same home. He loved them all more than he has ever loved any other thing.
But they weren't family.
He knows the saying: you can choose your friends, but not your family. It is true, to an extent. He didn't choose the family he belongs to now. It was created over centuries, with good moments and bad moments, all mingling together to change their overall dynamic into that which can be defined as family.
Compared to many, people see it is a foreign idea, one that can't be interpreted as all anyone ever sees is him and a box. To others, it is odd simply because his family consists of only two souls.
But that doesn't concern him for one simple reason:
He can finally say that he has a family.
