MOD NOTE: VOTING RULES REMINDER

I wanted to wait until after the voting to address this but I feel I must reiterate some very important rules when voting.

It has come to my attention that one of our most basic rules was violated last voting period, and I want to make this clear again. In every voting post the rules are explicitly stated.

To keep this contest fair for every participant I make sure that 1) you are not allowed to vote for yourself, and 2) you cannot solicit your fic to friends or make sock puppets to vote for you.

I allow people to post their fics elsewhere during a contest. I know some communities restrict that, but I want you guys to get as much exposure to your fics as possible. It also brings more people over to the community who may not know about it. Hey, free advertisement!

However, I find it completely unfair to other members who are posting their entries to get votes based on merit and not by asking others or creating fake accounts to get votes.

Because this community is new, I let this first time slide, however, next time I will have to disqualify the entry of the author not following these rules.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. This community is growing and becoming very enjoyable, and I want everyone to have a good time and have a fair chance at the rewards!

Um, I posted my fic on the doctor_who community as well as here, that was allowed, wasn't it? I mean, I asked people to vote for it if they liked it and linked here. If not I apologise, I didn't mean to break any rules!

Technically you are asking for votes outside the community, so I definitely would raise a flag over it, yet I'm more concerned about people creating accounts for votes or getting a mass of their friends over here to "stuff the ballot" so to speak.

It's a fine line, really, and I obviously can't exercise my mod powers at the doctor_who community. I can just post warnings HERE hoping people understand the rules and work to be fair to the other members.

Well I did say to head over there and check out all the other entries as well, so I only feel somewhat guilty! I will take note of this more next time though. Again, apologies! I know it must be hard to keep all this going and fair to everyone, it is the internet!

Would a post elsewhere with a link to one's own entry and a paragraph saying words to the effect "visit the community, look at all the entries, and be sure to vote as you see fit" be in order?

Ummmm...when I post at my LJ, I link to other comms as well as here. I don't ask for votes (anywhere in my summary/notes/disclaimers) and I do advertise what the entry is FOR (who_contest's Family, etc, etc) in my author's notes, but I send my fic to about five comms as well as here.

Please tell me if I violated any rules - I would hate to find out I had. And if I did - please remove my name as 1st place as that would be decidedly unfair.

Posting your fics to other comms during voting is perfectly acceptable. As long as you're not begging for votes, it's cool.
