Title: Why Are We Always Labeled as Married?
Rating: G (child friendly)
Word Count: 545 words
Pairings or Characters: The Tenth Doctor, Donna Noble, and Jenny (mentioned)
Spoilers: This contains Spoilers to ‘The Doctor’s Daughter”.
Warnings: No warning, this is a child friend article.
Summary: Donna knows the Doctor is in pain after losing his daughter so she tries to cheer him up with a friendly argument.
Additional Information: I wrote this scene in the Tardis, recently after Jenny (the Doctor’s Daughter) had died.
As the Tardis whizzed off Earth and to a different world, Donna gazed into the Doctor’s face. The Doctor was walking around the Tardis’ main control panel setting the coordinates for their next adventure. He saw her gazing at him in the corner of his eye and gave her a sly smile. But Donna knew better than that and she could clearly see that he face was strained with pain and misery. He had just lost his new daughter to General Cobb’s reluctance to end the War between the Hath and Humans. Donna thought that a friendly argument might cheer him up.
“Doctor, what’s wrong with my face?” Donna asked.
The Doctor looked up and confusion struck his face.
“I don’t understand. Your face looks fine.”
And right after that he went back to typing in coordinates. Donna rushed over to him and smiled to herself thinking that this was a good idea.
“No, it’s not fine, look again.”
This time the Doctor moved his face close to hers and started looking deeply at Donna’s face. He moved around to observe every inch of her face to see if anything had changed.
“Donna, I don’t know what’s wrong with your face. But if I see any changes I will tell you.”
“Do we look similar? Like at all?”
“Well, you’re a ginger and I’m not. You’re eyes are a bluish-gray and mine are more of a brown color. Your skin is a bit lighter than mine, and Donna I don’t know what you’re getting at.”
“I want to know why everyone labels us as ‘married’.”
“Donna,” The Doctor said as he started circling the Tardis. “At that I’m as clueless as you are.”
“But I want to know!” Donna said as she followed him. “At the Odd factory, in Pompeii, blimey Agatha Christy thought we were married.”
“Just between you and Donna,” The Doctor said not looking up from the Tardis’ control panel. “The human mind process is just as confusing as trying to replace a chameleon circuit. And that’s really hard. Trust me because I failed that course.”
“But seriously, it’s like we wear a sticky note on our heads that say we’re married! I mean at least that Ood said I looked single!”
The Doctor looked up and grinned from ear to ear. His laugh was barely noticeable, but Donna could hear him.
“Smart Ood.”
“But I mean besides that one time in Pompeii, when that guy thought we were brother and sister.”
For a brief moment all was quiet until the Doctor spoke softly.
“Thank you Donna.” He looked down at his hand on the Tardis’ console. “For a brief moment, even if it was for only that long, you made me forget about Jenny and Messaline.”
“Doctor,” Donna put her hand on the Doctor’s hand and smiled. “You’re my best friend and I’ll always help you in anyway can.”
Donna tried to look at the Doctor’s face, but his eyes were locked with the Tardis’ console. Donna sighed and looked away.
“You’re my best friend too Donna.” The Doctor said and he locked eyes with Donna. “And you forget something.”
“What?”
“General Cobb thought we were married to.”
Donna and the Doctor burst into laughter as the Tardis whizzed away …

Just a thought for them to ponder.
