Word Count: 202
Characters: 10th Doctor, River Song
Prompt:
who_contest “Thank You”
Summary: When somebody gives their all for you, it’s only fair that you thank them.
Notes: The title is from Led Zeppelin’s “Thank You”, the story comes from “Forest of the Dead”. I own nothing.
He fell, in that graceful way he had, to the core of the library.
He had a lot to think about as he made his way down. Who was this Professor Song? Why did she have his sonic screwdriver (which he urged to stay on even as it flickered)? How in the universe did she know his name?
But the thing that worried him the most, the part that sent him this way in this fashion, was the guilt of never telling her those two little words:
Thank you.
He ran to the machine, leaping over things as he had hurdled stacks of books upstairs. He felt CAL’s eyes on him as he found the portal and released River Song.
There was just enough life in the screwdriver. Just enough of her. He had made it. Somewhere she continued her story. Somewhere – and he was betting it was somewhere great – she went on.
He grinned. From what he knew of her, and it wasn’t much, she’d be praising him with faint damns by now. But some things he couldn’t let go.
For instance, when somebody gives their all for you, it’s only fair that you thank them. In whatever way you can.
