Summary: He did it for both of them, even if it left him with nothing.
If there had ever been any heat in him, it was gone. Funneled into that bundle of cells with his face, one heart, and a touch of the unfamiliar, thanks to what could loosely be called his mother. All the love he’d felt; the glee, the longing, the heat of his improper passion were gone. As he said his second final goodbye to Rose, his eyes were remote. The hand that had once been his, that was clutching hers, burned with everything that mattered to the both of them. It was all in him now. It had left him cold.
