I Just Haven’t Met You Yet
NOTE: What if River Found A Letter from 11 explaining the situation that she was about to encounter with a ‘Pretty Boy’ Ten?
“This is one day of big revelations.” River Song said.
“Yeah well… this time I did just tell you my name.” The Doctor said.
“You sure it wasn’t rule one again?” River asked.
“It was rule 2478. Look in the guide if you want to argue.” He smiled.
“I agree with you.”
“Oh and by the way… I used to be called Pretty Boy.” The Doctor asked.
“What?” River said.
“Don’t judge… you are River Song.” The Doctor smiled.
“I’m not… Sweetie…” River smiled.
“Good… now… read this.” He said and handed River a letter that he had previously written.
She looked at him and he nodded before she opened it and sat down on the rock as he leaned against the TARDIS.
My Dearest River,
What a day?
I am so glad you god to see these Singing Towers…. Sorry it took way to long to get here.
Truth is; I have been missing taking you here on purpose because it will be the last night I spend with you.
You may not see it but I truly, solely depend on you. Ever though it is sporadic you are the one constant conspirator – cause you haven’t always been easy to track down…. And Companion isn’t what you are.
I know this journey has been one of twists and turns like a giant puzzle to solve which as you are aware I LOVE THEM.
Now River…. Stop crying you know this isn’t goodbye.
It isn’t goodbye and don’t worry – you’ll see me again and you watch us run.
Now for the hard part… I have never felt so guilty knowing this but it is the time.
There is something that I have to tell you and it breaks my hearts to tell you this.
This will be the last time I see you… however when you see me again… you won’t recognize me… and I won’t have the faintest idea who you are.
After you read this I am going to have to wipe your memory… it is vital that you don’t consciously remember any of it… however your sub-conscious will always feel there is something there.
I just want you to know… because I have such trouble saying it out loud – although we aren’t married in this reality. Melody Pond… River Song… you will always be my wife.
I love you for all of time and space – you are the song all along.
Love,
Your Dearest Doctor
River had tears in her eyes, she looked at The Doctor and he sighed and pulled her into a hug. They stood there in each other’s arms, tight, warm and safe.
She let the tears fall and the sniffles and sounds of desperation flow. She knew he was right – she knew it hurt and it was always going to hurt. But she also knew he was right.
Wiping away her tears she looked at The Doctor – he had tears in his eyes also; he wanted to save her but knew it was time. She gave him a hug and waited for what he wanted to say… had to… or felt obliged.
“Doctor?” River cooed.
“You have no idea… of the gravity of this situation.” The Doctor side.
“Then tell me! Doctor… stop hiding.” She began to cry.
“Oh River…. I’m sorry…. So sorry… it’s time.” The Doctor said.
“Time for what?” River asked.
The Doctor placed his hand on the doorknob of the TARDIS. He held her gaze for a second and then let it dropped, he gulped and rubbed his fingers across his eyes and brow. He opened the crack of the TARDIS and took hold of her free hand as the other one was holding a new advanced sonic screwdriver.
He looked up at her and lent in and kissed her lips, “Time to go to The Library.” He said simply before they closed the door and the TARDIS dematerialized.
